You have the choice to install Qtopia again, or X11. SWITCH FROM JAPANESE TO ENGLISH Instruction to set english langage on Zaurus SL-C760 from http://code-bear.dyndns.org/~mithro/converting-to-english.html 0. Install the xterm application on the zaurus from cdrom or package manager 1. Open the terminal (xterm) 2. you should now have a prompt of "bash-2.05$" 3. type "su" to enter superuser mode 4. type "cd /home/root/Settings" 5. type "vi locale.conf" 6. type "i" 7. change the line "Language = ja" to "Language = en" 8. press the "Cancel" key 9. type ":wq" 10. Press the "Q" icon at the lower left corner 11. select "Reboot" and select "Yes" 12. Bingo! You now have a English version of C700 ! This is a method very fast to switch to english. However, some characters do not work, so it is very interesting to flash the rom as indicated in the following. INSTALL ENGLISH ROM Site web: http://www.cacko.biz/ 1. GET ROM AND FLASH 2.1 Get the file from http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/cacko.html 2.2 Decompress the archive and follow the instructions from the web site: 1. Extract the 3 files - initrd.bin tools.tar updater.sh - to the root of your CF or SD/MMC card. 2. Make sure the Zaurus isn't plugged into AC power. 3. Remove battery for at least 5 seconds. 4. Replace battery (replace battery cover, lock cover), plug in AC power. 5. Press and hold the "OK" button on the keyboard (with the On button at the back of the zaurus) 6. Turn the power on, you should see the Japanese service menu. 7. Now Plug in the Power Cord. (You will get an error if it isn't plugged in!) 8. Select option 4 (flash/update). 9. You then have four options (1. USB, 2. CF, 3. SD, 4. ?? it's in Japanese!) 10. Choose either option 2 or 3, depending on which media you put the files on. 11. THIS IS FOR C760/860 ONLY!!!: After a while a menu pops up, select "5 Flash repartition" (enter 25 - 25 MB for root partition which gives 96 MB on user partion) First reboot 12. After a while it is repartioned and will reboot, after that complete steps 2-10 again and wait for the menu again. 13. Now select "1 Install new ROM" and wait - it will reboot. 14. Calibrate touchscreen and then wait a while - after approx. 1 min. a login screen will appear 15. Login as root with no password
