Japanese dictionary for the SHARP Zaurus Romain KUNTZ kuntz(at)sfc.wide.ad.jp ----------------------------------------- This dictionary provides english to japanese, and japanese to english translations. It is very useful as it also provides the hiragana translations of Kanjis. 1. Install packages ------------------- First, install the packages that you will find here: http://software.nautilus6.org/packages/zaurus/IPKS/dictionnary/ Install them using a terminal and the following command: # ipkg install package.ipk Install them in the following order: zlib-eb_1.2.2v05_arm.ipk eb_4.1v28_arm.ipk ebutils_1.2v01_arm.ipk eblook_1.6.1v01_arm.ipk kakasi_2.3.4-2_arm.ipk zten_1.6.2_arm.ipk 2. Install dictionaries ------------------------ Then you have to put the dictionaries either on a CF card, SD card or on the flash of the Zaurus. I recommend to put them on the flash, because reading operations are a lot faster. Create a "dict" directory where you want to store the dictionaries: /mnt/card/dict (for SD card) /mnt/cf/dict (for CF card) /home/zaurus/dict (for Zaurus flash) Then just untar the dictionaries in the "dict" directory. -> edict_en.fpwebz.tar is japanese<->english dictionary -> kanjidic_en.fpwebz.tar is kanji dictionary You will find other useful dictionaries here: http://www.hloeffler.info/zaurus/ 3. Use dictionary ------------------ Zten is the application you will use. You have to register the dictionary you want to use: - go to the first tab of the application, then click on the icon that looks like a paper with a pen, and move from left to right the dictionaries you want to use. Then click on "OK" - you can now select the dictionaries used for the search. On the second tab, you can enter either an english word, a japanese word (using katakana/hiragana or romanji) and get the result. The list on the right of the text entry allows you to choose the type of search: - beginning of answers must match the word - end of answers must match the word - the answers must strictly match the word - fourth one: I don't know :-) The last tab of the application gives you some help about the dictionaries.
